About Balanced Warriors Yoga
Balanced Warriors Founder discovered yoga after returning from a deployment in Iraq and serving 8 years in the Marine Corps.
Several folks had suggested yoga to Liz, but her typical responses included
- I am a Marine, I am not doing yoga
- I don’t need to do yoga, there’s nothing wrong with me
- I don’t want to become a granola eating, Birkenstock wearing yoga-doing hippie
And if you know anything about Marines, I am sure you can guess there were a few other responses in there. After many years of resistance, Liz decided to give in and try a yoga class designated for Veterans.
The most amazing thing happened at the end of the class, Liz fell asleep. It was the first time that she felt that her mind had stopped. She has since learned that her body and mind had connected and she was in the present moment.
After returning a few more times, to ensure it wasn’t a fluke, Liz was hooked. Even others were noticing a difference in her ability to stay calm and present. Liz decided to go through Yoga Teacher Training specifically to bring the benefits of yoga and mindfulness to other Veterans.
Liz is 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). She has completed Warriors at Ease training. In addition to her offering no cost yoga to Veterans she also co-developed and lead a training for other yoga teachers to work with Veterans, Meghan’s Foundation Boots on the Ground Training.
Liz’s yoga philosophy is quite simple, anyone can do yoga. If you can feel yourself breathe in and breathe out and notice the sensation you are uniting the body and mind – which is where the term yoga comes from. Yoga means “to yoke” or to bring together, to unite the body and mind.
